Multidisciplinary Artist from the Costa Rican Cloud Forest
A compulsive dreamer since childhood, photography and painting became Chuz Vargas way of transforming dreams and fantasies into visual maps of her life.
Growing up in very rural Costa Rica in the early 90's, she developed a highly imaginative inner world as she played and explored rivers and forests in the mountains of Monteverde.
Her mother, a painter and an artist herself, was her portal to the world of creation through paint and ceramics. Her father, a poet, shared her love of books and told her many stories and tales of his childhood that fed an already active mind.
Her curiosity about the divine is something that has been present in her since she has memory, always asking questions that grownups didn't seem to have the answer for. What is God? Why are we here? Do animals go to heaven?
Growing up in an agnostic yet spiritual household, attending a Quaker school and being part of a Catholic society, this gave way to a sort of plasticity to her spirituality.
Her personal redefinition of faith and spirit have led her to explore inner worlds that are reflected in her art, with earthly beings, highly colourful strokes and certain reappearing elements that demonstrate an undeniable connection with nature.
Chuz firmly believes that we heal through art, and in her artistic process, she has found in painting a unique way to know herself more deeply.

"Creativity is a channel that connects the tangible with the deepest parts of our subconscious; it's almost like learning to speak a language only you understand."
